Our first 4-H horse show....
Emma and Sarah rode and showed Tinker at a 4-H horse show last Saturday. Tinker is a pony who lives at the barn behind our house. The girls help feed and care for him, and in return get to ride him. They ended up with a few ribbons and had a great day. Being new to the sport, I didn't realize that girls actually got thrown off their horses---and was a little bit freaked out about how relaxed and normal everyone seemed after a girl got thrown. Maybe I can come up w/some sort of saddle seat belt or something....

Ooooo, I am SO jealous! When I was a little girl, I loved horses, and about all I read were horse and dog books. I remember being so excited when "The Black Stallion" was finally made into a movie, and it is still one of my favorites! Sarah and Emma look quite professional, and I bet they will always remember that day.

how fun and what cute outfits! Where did you get those? And who teaches them how to ride. Meghan would be so jealous. Pretty neat connection.

the outfits so far have been hammy-downs, but Emma reminds me daily that she NEEDS a jacket to complete her outfit. So far also the lessons have just been freebies from the barn, but Emma is begging for me to sign her up for some additional lessons---I'm holding off as long as I possibly can though, riding lessons are not cheap!!

Nothing about horses is cheap! Some saddle/tack shops sell second-hand things cheaper, but its still WAY expensive to do anything with horses. That's why I refuse to get started riding again. I loved 4-H! If there is a Pony Club in your area, you might look into that too. (again, expensive!) They teach you everything you'll ever need to know about horses.

Anyway, so cute to see the girls riding! I am jealous too. I haven't ridden since college. Sigh.

I can't even show my girls this post, they will be so jealous. They ask me all the time to go ride horses. But we don't have connections with horses like you do.
